Mikey Powell
Michael "Mikey" Powell has been described as a colorful character with an array of talents. He is indisputably one of the best collegiate lacrosse players of all time and is also a successful musician as a guitarist and lead singer in his band, "Mikey Powell and the Villains Trust".
Mikey Powell was born in Carthage, NY, and was a four-time 1st-Team All-American at Syracuse University, graduating in 2004. He is the only player to ever be awarded the Jack Turnbull Award as the best attackman in Division I lacrosse four times during his collegiate career. He wore #22 at Syracuse, following in the footsteps of his brothers, Casey and Ryan Powell, who also wore #22 and who were also four time All-Americans at Syracuse University.
Mikey Powell surprised many lacrosse enthusiasts when he decided against playing in Major League Lacrosse for the summer 2004 season following his graduation. He was the #1 pick in the 2004 MLL draft and was drafted by the Baltimore Bayhawks. Mikey decided not to play lacrosse for the Bayhawks that summer, claiming that he instead wanted to pursue a professional music career. Rumor has it that a large part of his decision not to play in the MLL during the summer of 2004 was that he didn't want to play for any team other than Rochester Rattlers, the team for which both his brothers played.
Mikey Powell demonstrates an incredible lacrosse talent. Standing at only 5'9" and weighing only 165lbs, Mikey relies on his dazzling quickness and finesse to score against his opponents. His moves are often awe-inspiring, as he utilizes never-before-seen dodges to blow past his defenders. He currently holds a spot on the Boston Cannons MLL roster for 2009 and has signed a lucrative endorsement contract with Brine Lacrosse.
Mikey Powell and the Villain's Trust
Mikey Powell and the Villain's Trust is a five member band consisting primarily of Syracuse natives. The band fuses elements of jazz, funk, reggae, and heavy rock to form a unique sound. Mikey's voice and music has been described as "soulful', and lyrically, "story-telling". The Villains Trust performance is certainly entertaining, but let's hope that he sticks to athletics.
