2010 NCAA/THSLL legal lacrosse head recommendations

You've heard that you need to play with a 2010 NCAA legal lacrosse head this year, and you're wondering which head to buy, right? Don't worry -- there are a lot of people wondering the same thing. Fortunately, you don't have to randomly choose which new lacrosse head you are going to purchase; you have LacrosseTURF to guide you.

The following 2010 NCAA/THSLL head recommendations are based upon personal use and input from trusted sources, including insight provided by current members of the UNC lacrosse team. All of these heads can be used in NCAA and THSLL play. Check the article titled "Lacrosse Head Specification Guide" for a complete listing of the heads legal for your level of play.

The STX Super Power: This is the 2010 NCAA legal version of the "Proton Power". It is currently the most popular stick in lacrosse and it's suitable for all positions. The head is moderately stiff and has a wider scoop than many of the narrower 2010 legal heads, making it better for scooping up groundballs. The head becomes narrower towards the throat of the stick to retain ball control. It is a "universal" head, meaning it is legal at all levels and in all leagues.

The STX Professor: UNC attackmen strongly recommend this head. The STX Professor is built to minimum specifications of the new 2010 NCAA rules, with a 6 inch scoop and a 3 inch throat. It is as narrow and pinched as a legal head can be, and is great for offensive players who want a stick that holds the ball well. This head is only legal for NCAA play or high school players in Texas.

The Reebok 9K Career: This is a great head for all positions. The ball sits deep in the pocket and it holds the ball well. It is a "universal" head, meaning it is legal at all levels and in all leagues.

The Warrior Evo Pro X6: This is the 2010 NCAA legal version of the "Evo Pro". It is built to minimum head specifications of the new 2010 NCAA rules, with a 6 inch scoop and 3 inch throat. It looks virtually the same as the popular "Evo Pro", only with a wider throat. This head is recommended for offensive players. It is only legal for NCAA play or high school players in Texas.

The STX x10: This head is perfect for playing defense. It has a wide scoop for easy ground balls and is stiffer than the rest of the heads on the market. The basket is fairly wide but the ball sits well in the pocket. The plastic has been reinforced to decrease the chances of the head warping after throwing checks. It is a "universal" head, meaning it is legal at all levels and in all leagues.
