Don't get handcuffed
Lacrosse Defense: The Basic Hold Check
On defense, you want to keep your opponent at a slight distance so you can throw checks and disrupt his cradle or pass. Keeping him at a slight distance will prevent your opponent from getting in tight to your body while he’s dodging or running, which would “handcuff” you and make it impossible for you to throw a check. Keep your distance by drop-stepping and by quickly pushing your opponent as he comes near.
